    FAQ

WHO NEEDS TO USE A COMMERCIAL INVOICE?

Some commercial work requires you to send an invoice, while some does not. Whether or not you send a commercial invoice depends on the arrangement you have with the client engaging your commercial services. If you are working on contract basis, you almost always must submit an invoice to be paid.

WHEN SHOULD I SUBMIT MY COMMERCIAL INVOICE?

It is best to decide beforehand with the client when you will submit your invoice. It is likely that you will submit your invoice either as soon as your commercial work is complete, or, if the client is engaging your commercial services in an ongoing capacity, at the end of each month.

WHAT DO I NEED TO INCLUDE IN MY COMMERCIAL INVOICE?

In order to get paid promptly, you must include certain pieces of information in your commercial invoice. First, you’ll need to include the name, address, and phone number of the company or person you are invoicing, as well as for your business. At the top, also include the date, the date by which you expect to be paid, and the method of payment you prefer. Then, you’ll need to include a description of the work you performed and the cost of each piece of work listed.

This may be one flat fee or an hourly rate, depending on the agreement you have with the client. If it is hourly, include the number of hours and multiply to get your total. At the bottom, total everything up, apply sales tax if necessary, and then include the grand total.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SUBMIT MY COMMERCIAL INVOICE?

After you submit your invoice, you should receive your payment by the date you specified. If you do not receive your payment by this time, check in with the client to confirm that your commercial invoice was received. Keep in mind the method of payment you specified, so that you make sure you are looking in the right place for the payment.
